United BBC of Trenton

United BBC of Trenton

Year Organized: 1858

Year Re-Constituted: 2017

On October 16, 1858, the United Base Ball club of Trenton was formed. The following March, the club joined the National Association of Base Ball Players (NABBP), the first organized base ball league, at their annual convention.

As the sport’s popularity spread, many teams in New Jersey organized clubs to play the top clubs, most of them from New York City and Brooklyn. The United, along with other local clubs including the Columbia of Bordentown and the Nassaus of Princeton, a team made up of students from the university, were no exception.

After the end of the Civil War, many different clubs called Trenton home. However, it was in 1867 that a club from Trenton had their first and most significant match. This club played the Athletic Base Ball Club of Philadelphia, whom had the best record in the NABBP that season.

The modern United BBC is a Vintage Base Ball club aiming to accurately play and educate the public about the early history of Base Ball (yes two words).
